CPECC is the largest corporation for electric power planning, survey and engineering in China. Its business scope includes: electric power development planning, power project engineering review and evaluation, as well as consulting, supervision,EPC project etc. It is the professional organization for evaluating thermal power projects autherized by NDRC (the National Development and Reform Committee).CPECC holds six regional electric power design institutes, i.e. the Design Institutes of Northeast China, East China, Central South China, Northwest China, Southwest China, and North China Power Engineering Co., Ltd., and one consultant company－the China Power Construction Engineering Consulting Corporation as well as one planning institute —the Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute.
CPECC has a staff of 7858, among them there are 11 national survey & design master , 138 experts enjoying special government subsidy, 4623 senior engineers and engineers, 1450 registered engineers.

CPECC takes the leading position on the electric power survey & design field in China, especially in the foremost technology such as nuclear power plant conventional island, clean coal combustion, 1,000MW ultra-supercritical units, air-cooled power plants, ultra-high voltage AC & DC power delivery and so on.

CPECC has undertaken various strategic studies on electric power development planning, such as the analysis of electric power markets, energy consumption, planning of power sources and power grids, electric power delivery from the West to the East in China, nationwide power grid connection planning, optimization and upgrade of the structure of electric power industry. CPECC has completed the survey and design for more than 60% of the power generation and delivery projects in China, as well as more than 170 projects in dozens of foreign countries. CPECC has played the leading role and undertaken around 90% work in research, standardization of electric power survey & design in China, as well as in the development of new technologies and utilization of imported new technologies.

CPECC since 2001 has been ranked by ENR (the American Engineering News Record) in 200 top international engineering design companies and 225 worldwide engineering contractors and the 1st of the top 60 engineering design companies in China.

The six regional electric power design institutes of CPECC have been consecutively ranked in the top 100 survey & design institutes in China for the last 10 years.
